Sandra Betzina

Pants Fitting
End the pant fit frustration! Begin the class by trying on pants or jeans made up in all sizes to determine what sizes to start with. Sandra Betzina will then advise you as to what additional pattern alterations you will need to accommodate; a flat seat, protruding seat, tummy, high hips, full hips, sway back, full thighs, protruding calves etc. You will then cut out a pair of pants or jeans from scrap fabric or muslin. Fit will be refined. Alterations will be transferred to create a master pattern. You now have a pant or jean pattern which fits and can be made again and again.

Jacket Fitting
Sandra Betzina will bring fitted jackets made up in all sizes.  She will measure you and determine what size to start with.  Then she will determine your fitting problems (i.e. narrow shoulders, sloped shoulders, large or small bust, broad back, full or high hip, tummy, large or small arms, etc) and alter a Today’s Fit pattern to fit these changes.  Then you will cut out your altered pattern and make it up in scrap fabric so that the fit can be refined. You will go home with an altered pattern ready to cut out in the fabric of your dreams. Feel free to bring your fabric of choice for Sandra’s suggestions on interfacing, lining, piping, etc.

What's This Fascination with Baltimore Album Quilts?

Have you ever met such fascinating ladies?,” Elly writes, “Olde Baltimore’s Album Quilts compelled my first book Spoken Without a Word — now 30 years ago. I penciled their patterns, explored their appliqué, and sensed ancient symbolic tongues. Someone whispered, “…You’ll find those same quilt symbols on Victorian gravestones. Look for Obelisks!” I found obelisks on 5 continents! Why on 5? So many questions (How did one ruche? Why so many Oddfellow symbols — and did those good ol’ guys have any good ol’ gals?) & a few answers.  Stitching, studying, I came to feel kinship with those women of long ago. The Baltimores’ clear convictions, partisanships, patriotism, faith, fellowships, and friendships comforted and humbled me.”

Join Elly in sleuthing-out the secrets in Victorian graveyards around the world – and even exploring –last year- ancient Egypt’s Valley of the Gods! Secrets, yes, … but secrets openly shared! Across the industrialized world, from Calgary to Capetown, great numbers enjoy stitching Baltimore’s path. What’s the appeal?

What fun to enjoy a gourmet supper, slides, … and our dear Needlesisters of Bygone Baltimore. Get to know them better. We’ll hold snatches of their song in our heart thereby and be less lonely for the evening’s visit.
